Members Reviews: Hilarious as always Blackadder has always been one of my favorite TV shows and the audio version is EXCELLENT!! The only thing missing is the TV which is great because I can listen to the shows while I am working. I hope audible will expand on their BBC comedy series because they are very, very funny...if you like British comedy that is. Better on screen These audio recordings are simply the audio track from the series. I understood this when I downloaded it, so I wasn't disappointed in any way. However, some of the humor is lost by having the audio alone. Five stars for the series, only three for the audio. Good for Blackadder fans Keep in mind this is strictly the audio portion of the tv show. The performances are good and the lack of visuals really didn't reduce the fun of the series by much. I gave it a lower rating for performance because the quality of the audio was not that good and made it difficult to hear in places. Although, if you love blackadder this is one you will want. Always Great, but... I can't find a thing at fault with Black Adder II itself. It's just as wonderful as it always was. The only thing I would have changed is...If they could have made one file per episode, it would be a lot easier to select which one I want to listen to. (My player doesn't allow for fast forward or rewind.) Wonderful Britcom! Unlike the first Blackadder series, this Elizabethan one relies on dialogue, wordplay and wit. I can listen to it over and over again.

What did you love best about The Castle? The story, the actors......it was all funny! What was one of the most memorable moments of The Castle? Too many to list! Which character as performed by the narrator was your favorite? Sir William If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be? Castle Comedy at it's Best! Hystericaly funny So good, I re-listen to it every so often just for a laugh. Amazingly Fun I don't normally go for an audio version of a program, but this caught my eye and I risked the credit. Well worth it! The story is a kick and the delivery of the ,lines leave you almost able to picture the physical moments taking place as this is performed. Now I will undoubtedly scour the world for the videos of this hilarious sketch comedy/ comedy-soap. Oh yeah, there are a few running gags! bbe ( best book ever) it was very funny and I loved it ! It sounds great as well. Funny stuff Any additional comments? This radio show is a riot! It's a great mix of period and modern crude comedy. Very funny, but pretty dirty!

Members Reviews: Very good Audioproduction of a TV show It took me a long time before I decided to buy this book on the assumption that "audioversions" of TV shows don't work very well. How wrong I was! The main reason I think is that because of the high focus on textual interaction as opposed to cinametic humour, the jokes do not get lost on the listener. (E.g. with audiobook fawlty towers a "describer" is needed to describe the cinematic situation in order to get the joke through). What makes the show fun is the interaction between the very steriotypical characters, "idiot/insensitive general, pencil pusher, gung ho officer and the ultimate cynic who's main objective is "do everything not to get killed" This book is very very funny, but also very sarcastic at how it sneers at British history. The TV show was controversial as it obviously doesn't spare British/Allied ignorance to life. "After 17 failed attempts they would never expect us to try an 18th". In that aspect the book does have a sad historical value. Rowan Atkinson himself stated that the distance in time to 1917 only made it possible to write a parody about "Flanders Fields". The only thing i found a bit annoying was the "canned laughter" but I got used to it after a few minutes. Even if you didn't see the original show, I still recommend the book! Dry, very dry! Love it - made me laugh so much I was as out of breath as "an asthmatic ant carrying a very large bag of shopping." If you like dry English humour, you will enjoy Blackadder. Doesn't lose a thing just being audio rather than the original TV show. Blackadder Extremely entertaining. Hilariously sharp wit. This is dry and biting English humor at its best. excellent! superbly funny This is British conedy at its best.: " since this war stsrted we have advanced as far as an asthmatic ant going home with the shopping". I listen to this book while on the treadmill. I look forward to the "reruns ". By far the best of the Black Adder series. Clever and funny and sad This is my favourite series of Blackadder. It's particularly satirical and the most consistently clever of the series (in my opinion). Plus you get Hugh Laurie, Tim McInnery and Stephen Fry in every episode! Awesome :D

Possibly the funniest series ever! John Cleese, Connie Booth, Prunella Scales et al. Cleese wrote the first 6 shows with Booth (his then wife......who, by the by, is American.) The series was so popular that BBC begged for 6 more episodes. Cleese and Booth (now divorced) got together and brought us 6 more gems of comic genius. The Major, Manuel ( who narrates the series's in letters to his Mom ), Chef......they are all here! To my surprise I found that I enjoyed the audio version more than the televised show. If you are serious about funny, you will get the whole series post haste! I already have these. You lucky Audible Listeners! These make me laugh!... It's difficult to find good, clean humor these days...but this is a rare exception! I have listened to all three volumes and this one is my favorite. Too, too funny! Enjoy with a nice cuppa... Cleese at his best.
The genius of The Faulty Towers on.audio. who could have thought thats one could still split up on fits of laughter with no vksuals on.this.show. brilliantly done.. Don't Mention de Var! Be careful where you listen to this and keep a handkerchief on hand. Sometimes I laughed so hard I had to wipe my eyes and I would have been in trouble if I was trying to drive while listening. I can also be embarrassing to burst out laughing while riding public transit. The full cast recording with narration by Manuel to fill in any blanks. The Germans episode is the best of the series and, IMHO, one of the best examples of British comedy. Fawlty Towers If you enjoy Fawlty Towers try Dads Army. I think you will enjoy a similar type of humour ,which is hard to find these days.

A shift from TV to radio that works well In addition to being brilliantly funny, Fawlty Towers is, at times, a very physical comedy with lots of visual gags (think of the German marching walk and the business with the moose head). They've neatly solved this problem by having the episodes narrated by Manuel, the Spanish waiter (Andrew Sachs). These voice-overs make it clear what's happening, but those who are very familiar with the show might find them unnecessary. There are also discussions with writer and performer John Cleese before each episode, which are well worth listening to if you're a fan and are after some extra insight and knowledge about the show and its creation, but also slightly give away some of the events in the upcoming show (but they don't ruin them at all). The episodes remain hysterically funny, but also painfully awkward, as they were on first viewing on the BBC. Brilliant work, and well worth a listen to revisit the good (and not so good) folks of Torquay. The Ultimate Classic of Comedy Comedy is defind in Fawlty Towers. The writing is superior and the casting of the characters was perfect. John Cleese is one comic perfect !! This is the only comedy that is very greatly enjoyed by either watching it or listening to it !! British comedy is the best and bightest when it uses it's dry and wildly funny wit, as found in Fawlty Towers. I know that you will come across people in your world that appear in Fawlty Towers. Have a super terrific time as you listen to Fawlty Towers ... Manuel, manuel, MANUEL !!! A fan forever... My review will be biased in the sense that I am a total Fawlty Towers fan. These episodes are great to listen to if you want some fun on your daily commute :) Still good, but... ...doesn't work as well as an audiobook as the other volumes.

Fantastic festive audio book Blackadder transfers so well to being an audio book the opportunity to acquire Blackadder's Christmas Carol was too much to resist. The story is well known, a 'good' Edmund Blackadder who becomes bad through the visions of a Christmas Ghost. It is very, very funny and very well acted. If you have an ipod and still want your blackadder fix you can do so via this brilliant audio story. superb Classic (now) British comedy: you won't get much better than this in the Christmas theme & recorded in the last couple of decades

Funny stuff but with obnoxiously loud laugh track I really enjoyed The Two Ronnies TV show when it ran years ago and I was looking forward to listening to this audio compilation. The Ronnies sound great and I love their humor and wordplay. But, almost everything they say, even the least funny remarks, gets a 2.2 second full volume laughtrack that shuts off as suddenly as it turns on. It is so annoying I can only listen to the audiobook a few minutes at a time. This is also true of another great series, Yes, Prime Minister; but not true of its predecessor, Yes, Minister; so why BBC Audio or whoever produces these audio versions chooses to amp up the phony laughs on some of these audio versions is a mystery, and a big disappointment, not to mention a danger to my hearing. I've factored in the obnoxious use of a laughtrack in my Overall and Performance ratings here. Laughs Galore! This download is pure comedy Gold. Covering the sketches and Monologues from the best of the Two Ronnies Shows, it is quite simply BRILLIANT. The phrase 'because I never had the Latin',in the the sketch in which Pete bemoans the fact that he couldn't get to be a Judge has been a family joke whenever we make an excuse for not doing something. You have to imagine the pair in old raincoats and cloth caps to full appreciate what is going on. Fabulous ... I really really enjoyed listening So so funny. So clever I could 'see' them both in my minds eye. I will listen again & again. At first I thought it would be too short..dint want to wAste a credit on a book worth less than I pay a month but it was worth 3 credits. I was laughing so hard it hurt within the first 30 seconds. I had completely forgotten about it till I stumbled upon it on Audible and I bought it right away. If you've watched Dad's Army then just think of this show as the navy counter-part. The Navy Lark Oh heavens, that's the problem with growing older, suddenly the radio programmes that you listened to when you were little are available on Audible. If you are British then the Navy Lark is a real treat, but I don't think I need to tell the Brits that, they will all know. I do so envy the American audience, though I suspect that the Navy Lark is an acquired taste. I think it's the best thing since Scotch Eggs. In all, I'll continue to try all Jeremy's new series, but his bitter tone is beginning to cloud my enjoyment of his material. Here's hoping he gets some perspective and tolerance in his next series.

Better not to try to listen to a whole batch in one go because the structure - and indeed the jokes! - are quite similar ... but if you're happy to dip into it and get a great 6 minute slice of gay history whenever you want, it'll keep you going for weeks.

The sketches and songs performed by, among others, Kenneth Williams pushed the boundaries of what the censor would allow in those days and comparatively, makes todays 'risky' comedians look like a little boy running up and shouting bum at his granny. Good to hear some of the old humour I used to listen to this when I was a child on a Sunday lunchtime. It hasn't lost it's humour although I feel the newer generations would not appreciate it. As it is a recording of a radio show and from the 1960s I thought the reproduction would suffer but it was just as I remembered it. Expert radio play performance, Stunning cast Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting? No each story was a pearl in the necklace Two great plays and a bunch that aren't bad Overall this was a wonderfully performed set of Noel Coward plays. I have listened to a number of plays on Audible and LA Theater Works knows how to produce plays for audio. This set of plays has a couple of great plays, several pleasant plays, and a couple of short plays that are witty, but not very interesting. My favorites of this set of plays were Design For Living and Blithe Spirit, both are first rate plays and excellent performances. These recordings really gave me the feeling of experiencing a live performance. Fallen Angels is not a very deep play, but was wonderfully acted and quite funny. Hay Fever was even lighter, and my least favorite of the full plays in this set, nevertheless it was still well produced and worth the listen. The plot of Private Lives is rather thin but the characters and dialog are both well written and well acted.

It's a ninety minute tour-de-force; it will have you laughing out loud and leave you wanting more. little chemistry I first saw this play with Tammy Grimes and Brian Bedford, and their chemistry remains with me to this day. The recording was well done, and everything was present . . .but somehow there was little sense of that chemistry that makes the plot more than just words. Don't know whether the play or the performance is at fault here, but reading it on paper I did not encounter the same difficulty. Great Performance I loved hearing all the different characters come to life rather than reading the play myself. I would highly recommend following along with the book to see the stage directions.

Also well-recorded, you can hear what everyone says, clearly. Packed with information, personality, and humor Interesting, educational, and entertaining. I learned more than I expected, will listen to this again, and probably again. My only complaint is that the price is kind of high for the amount of time. To own the entire series will be over $50 if I continue to buy these, even at the discounted rate of platinum membership - hope these will be for offered on sale in the future instead. Thoroughly entertaining As a fan of QI, I was excited to find this program and I wasn't disappointed. Each of the individuals, whether they're comedians or scientists, brings their personality along with their concepts for curation. I like that the show is recorded with a live audience. It really comes to life (and makes you feel better about laughing out loud). I never get tired of listening to this. Curiously Charming and Funny This comedy show from the researchers of QI is full of astounding facts, charm and quirkiness. It makes me laugh out loud at times (which can be a bit embarrassing on the train), and more often than not evokes the "that's interesting!" response. Season one, hosted by John Lloyd with Bill Bailey, consists of six 27-minute episodes, each with three special guests. Each guest is invited to select something to donate to the virtual museum, which is then used as a topic for discussion, revealing fascinating facts and a good dose of humor. These donations range from The Battle of Waterloo to a pineapple, and discussion wanders around the realms of science, history and philosophy. Although gentle in tone, it's dense with content, and stands up well to repeat listens. hilarious Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why? Love the music with bill bailey. Brilliant throughout. Full of fascinating but pointless facts, much like QI.

This is based in the UK so much of the humor was lost on me. If it has been about the idiot American government I probably would've been in stitches the whole time. Peter is a an extraordinarily funny writer. He is also very generous, giving me NINE books to listen to in exchange for my opinions, including this review. I really enjoyed Dating in the Dark and Bride and Gloom- in that order. It is Bridget Jones' style but from the man's perspective. That is a compliment. This is a comedy about different quips of items for sale and short stories done in multiple voices. The material is refreshingly funny. My favorite (if I was to pick one) was the man running in a political race / also a real race. Along with the silly string & six packs. Pete Sortwell, the author has his own style when it comes to comedy and it seems like he never runs out of material. He is witty & funny & makes me laugh my bottom off! His narrator, Tony Scheinman did a good job delivering these funny lines to us with so many different voices, which only added to the charm. Great job guys!
