They will understand that cats don't have owners they have servants! The cat in this book is sarcastic and rude. I showed the story to a friend of mine who thought it was hilarious so bought the Christmas one for her. The children found this story quite difficult because humor is always difficult for them to get a handle on. Once they understood the story they really enjoyed listening to the audio version. They also enjoyed reading it aloud. The chapter that they have in their book is one of the funniest: It is the one where Tuffy brings home the rabbit. It is hilarious. What did you like best about this story? Jack Dee is the ideal person to read this story. His voice suits the character of the cat perfectly. Which scene was your favorite? Everything ranks under Cabin Pressure (it just can't be beat) - however, this has some good voice actors and a solid story line so I would list it as number 3 of my top 5 comedy radio series from the BBC. Keep up the good work BBC4! Wish this for Fred and Rosemary I sincerely hope they get to listen to this and the other one. I also hope more are yet to come. Members Reviews: Bloody fantastic !,, I came across this series completely by accident and love it. This is one of the most refreshingly interesting and funny things I have heard in years. Astonishment and humour One of my favourite radio programmes, this fills your head with wonder at the complex world we live in, and the mad and funny people who study it. But if they didn't, the world would be a greyer and flatter place. Who knew that the scientists, artists and others who work with this strange world are so engaging? I recommend this highly. Brilliant British Radio I only wish that more series of this comedy talk show were available, as I enjoyed it so much. As with previous series, it's interesting and funny in equal measure, and every episode is a really fun way to spend 20 minutes - learn a little something and have a laugh. A bit...rubbish. Members Reviews: Beyond the Fringe in brief If you could sum up Good Evening: Behind "Beyond the Fringe" in three words, what would they be? Good Evening: Beyond the Fringe is a brief, very brief, dramatization of the seminal British comic revue of the early 1960s, Beyond the Fringe. The original show was written and performed by Dudley Moore, Peter Cook, Alan Bennett and Jonathan Miller. This dramatization uses the decision of the troupe to take their hit London show to New York as the framing device in which to tell the rest of the story, which jumps around chronologically. We're treated to vignettes from each of the performer's growing-up years but in comic tone, as though their adult selves were interpreting their childhoods. These parts are very interesting, almost like short skits. Roy Smiles, the playwright, has done a good job of introducing us to the young men who created Beyond the Fringe. But I get the feeling that Smiles was working with a radio slot that only gave him 44 minutes to tell a vastly more complicated and intricate story. Which is too bad. Because I wish Smiles had spent two hours unfolding the story of the Fringers--how they met, the creation of their show, the interplay of their characters, the challenges. All that good stuff you can't jam into a small 44-minute program. All this being said, it's a quick enjoyable listen. Some interesting lines. And now treat yourself and go on youtube and pull up the video of the real guys doing their performance on stage. Which character as performed by the narrators was your favorite? Benedict Cumberbatch admirably filled the shoes of Dudley Moore. Actually, all the actors did a great job. Just wish they'd had a longer script to work with. Any additional comments? If you're like me--an American--you may not be familiar with Beyond the Fringe. I heard it was an influence on Monty Python, which is why I picked up this program. A fabulous comedy I sincerely hope Audible makes the many shows made available to Audible customers. Very funny Derek was better than Wilfred Hyde White as number one. You just could not fault his performance. After the surprise of the first few, I began to wish he'd just stop - and fit in more material. After half an hour, when the intermission poetry was still grinding on, I felt robbed of what it could have been. Come on - this isn't expensive material to buy. You could have had much more comedy and much, much less of the slow quatrains of introductory poetry.
