Without giving away the reason, were seeing Ed in a different environment and naturally the stories are not quite what Ive come to expect. Naturally they stand up to re-listening and by the third circuit Id managed to grab hold of the tale and pull more enjoyment out of it. The is not a case of poor writing, production or performance its down to me Id love to know if other Ed afficianardos feel the same way. The usual star-studded cast are fantastic though I must say we could have done with more Geoff McGivern - my Spot Ford Prefect score for this series barely reaches double figures maybe Geoff is better at hiding these days. Thank you and I hope series twelve is coming Ed Reardon rides again, ( Without a ticket) What made the experience of listening to Ed Reardon's Week: Series 11 the most enjoyable? Once again Reardon manages to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. A superior performance, strong characters and compelling story line, prove that Reardon is still the scrounging king of comedy. How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable? Make it a lot longer, expedite the next series, Which scene did you most enjoy? The cut and thrust of the Reardon versus Milvane theme, that runs throughout, is one of my particularly favourites. Somehow Ed' manages to avoid brutally murdering Milvane. Some would say that Ed' would be justified in dispatching Milvane with some considerable degree of brutality, if only to prevent Milvane from making any more execrable "straight to the bargain bin" films. The truth is however, that underneath the sniping there is a strong bond between the two characters. One would argue that perhaps they are different facets of the same coin. If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be? I don't think Reardon would tolerate a tag line. Any additional comments? This is the sort of thing that the BBC does so very well, thank you Audible.

Excellent I liked that the story was not complex and flowed well. Many Russian authors lose their readers by the use many characters with their multiple names. INDRANI KRISHNAIER Ki INDIA Memorable It's many days since I listened to this dramatization and I still can't get it out of my head. It haunts you because it's so real and because the lady in the van is such denial. There are lovely pieces like when he says she has a lot of success when she stands her ground with officials and it's because they can't stand the smell so do whatever will get her out of there fast. I am using my new credits on more Alan Bennett dramatizations. They are excellent. I love that you can hear the audios as there are some books I would have bought had this not been possible, and then been disappointed with the reader. The Lady in the Van - by Alan Bennett I was totally engrossed in this book. The storyline was both, very humorous and at times, quite sad, when it became apparent that the lady was not having an easy life. Maggie Smith was wonderful as the lady in another brilliant story from Alan Bennett. I just did not want the story to end.

This particular printing, however, is completely unacceptable. It's as if someone typed it into a document, and printed it off--no page numbers, not titled at the top of each page, the lines don't even break properly (see photo). Purchased as a gift, thankfully with enough time to purchase a better quality copy--probably for less money! A disgrace to the publishing community. I LOVED Anne of Green Gables as a child and own ... I LOVED Anne of Green Gables as a child and own the complete hard copy of the Anne series. Initially, I was delighted to find this collection of books written by one of my all time favorite authors for only $0.99 (kindle price. What a steal!) and felt I had to get the digital copy for my kindle at once. As soon as the product was delivered to my device, I began to read it since it's been years since I've visited the darling world that L.M Montgomery created. I was very surprised to find that I kept tripping on certain sentences; the writing didn't seem as smooth as I remembered. When I got to chapter 6, I decided to compare a sentence in the digital print to my old, yellowing physical copy of Anne of Green Gables book. I realized why I had some difficulty reading my new digital copy: THERE ARE TYPOS IN THIS PRODUCT. It contains the WORST kinds of typos. There are typos in which it results in sentences that don't make sense. There are typos with the wrong pronouns in them that make it confusing for the reader to understand which character the publisher meant to write about. I am able to follow the story because I've read Anne of Green Gables more than once with my hard copy but for new readers, these typos will make this beautiful story difficult to read and at times, understand. I hope the digital copy can be fixed so that owners can enjoy L.M. Montgomery's work as it was meant to be enjoyed. I have given this two stars instead of one because of the fabulous price for kindle readers. Bizarre Illustrations The illustrations are actually random pictures that are creepy since they are in the beginning when Anne meets Mathew Cuthbert so they insinuate a romance between them. And the free audiobook is click bait to set you up to download an app and give your email address to spammers. Screen shots of the "illustrations" below. who woulda thunk Two years ago I would have bet a bazillion dollars I would never read a "girls" book. But at 71 years of age I found myself in a house full of books only one of which I had not read.

Great fun if you were there and illuminating for anyone in the industry at the time. Intersting book... horrible reader. The worst reader I've heard from anything I've downloaded off Audible. Not only did he mispronounce a number of the names (Jet Li = Lie, Warren Beatty = Beetty) but even common words get butchered, and a few times titles of the films are said wrong (all I can remember is "6 Days, 7 Weeks" at the moment, but there were others.) Really an irritating experience. Though the book is fairly interesting. Fascinating topic, distracting reading It is easy to engage with Bart's fascinating idea--follow 1998's summer movies from inception to release and then tell the story. Brilliant stuff. It's quick and engaging, if a little too journalistic on occasion, but overall a very good read. But the audiobook's reader makes mistakes that derail and distract--for example, he can't pronounce "Warren Beatty," one of the book's central figures. He also screws up the name "Jet Li" several times. In a book where pronunciations are flexible (or fictional), this is less of an issue, but here, where we're talking about real people with real names, it's a shame that he couldn't take the time to ask someone.

Whew, had to wait FAR too long for volume 3 to appear. Just as good as the previous two series- give your laugh muscles a real good workout. Completely excellent and the funniest thing the BEEB have put out in years. Expectations exceeded I came late to the Bleak Expectations series having missed it on Radio 4 but after a few friends praised it I thought I would give it go on Audible. I wasn't disappointed and chuckled my way through the cod-melodrama of seasons one and two; particularly enjoying the moustach-twizzling evil of Anthony Head. The third series is the strongest to date and won't disappoint. Do start at the beginning if you have never listened before, you won't be sorry. Bleak Expectations Absolutely love this . This may seem an odd choice for an 81 year old ! It may seem quite demented but the humour and word play are wonderful. Always play it when feeling down. Full marks to writers and cast. Shame only this first series is available to buy. Brilliant in all ways Excellent writing, excellent voice acting. An English Under Milk Wood' without the poetry. Living lives of quiet desperation is the English way, and it's so funny it's sad, and so sad it's funny. The use of the narrative voice (Sheila Hancock) is brilliant Modern comedy at its best Waddington in Northamptonshire is exceptionally ordinary, as are its residents at first glance. Bur Katherine Jakeways manages the seemingly impossible, finding the most incredibly funny but also, at times, sad gems amidst their daily interactions. This is truly fabulous - a top notch cast give great performances, but the script is the star here. Series 2 has already been broadcast on Radio 4 and I really hope it is soon available on Audible, too.

Mr Mulliner is one of PG Wodehouse's less well-known creations but he deserves as much recognition as Jeeves and Wooster. A strange combination of pub bore and fantasist, he whiles away his time in the Angler's Rest spinning unbelievable yarns for his fellow drinkers, all of which he insists are true. Honeysuckle Cottage, the first story in this collection, is a hilarious tale of a house haunted by a writer of romantic fiction; I also really enjoyed Buck-u-Uppo, about a meek young curate whose life is transformed when he accidentally drinks a miracle cordial meant for elephants. All the stories are well acted, especially Mr Mulliner himself, played by the late great Richard Griffiths. Since I bought this title, I have listened to it at least once a week; it never fails to make me laugh. PGW and Richard Griffiths at their finest... I would thoroughly recommend these stories to all PGW fans. Less well known than young Berties, The Anglers Rest customers, Mrs. P and Mr. M are equally as funny. More PGW genius and perfectly dramatised. Absolutely delightful. I could listen to Richard Griffiths forever, and Wodehouse's slightly implausible yet irresistible stories are just the ticket for a diverting listen.

The way he read was great. He did a variety of accent, Welsh, Russian, and British and he excelled at them all. He really brought out the characters. Mr. Llewellyn on the other hand, disappointed me. I didn't like this story. What I expect from a Torchwood story is mystery, twists and turns, suspense. But there was none of that in Fallout. The storyline was straightforward, you could guess where it was going all the time. Nothing ever went wrong for the heroic characters. There wasn't really a threat for them, you know? That is not what I want for a Torchwood novel or any novel. If you like Tom Price or his character from Torchwood, I'd say give this one a listen.

Good, but not read by Patricia Routledge Vera is read by someone else this time (the cover art on this page reads Anne Reid) ladies of letters go crackers I loved this audible book. Very funny as are all the titles in this series Missing Patricia Routledge I do enjoy listening to this series but am missing the original cast. But it's still well worth the money.

This particular recording comes across as pretty typical Radio 2 fare, David Frost steering a safe and non-sensational course through the subject's professional and personal life, and allowing Maclaine plenty of space to discourse at length on her life and times, her career milestones, the key events within her life and also to range into more general topics of life, love, death and beyond. Shirley Maclaine is clearly fully at ease with Frost, and her easy conversational style is both an engaging and an entertaining listen, having a forthrightness that is endearing and, at times, quite heart-warming. The show's editing is a little raggy in places, and the interviewer's live interjections can occasionally grate, but neither of these faults really detract from what is essentially a fascinating glimpse into the life, times and innermost heart of one of Hollywood's truly golden greats. What a pity it is only an hour long!

Members Reviews: Laughed so hard, nearly drove off the road My husband and I and our two teens (13 & 15) thoroughly enjoyed listening to this book. I considered it good (older) family entertainment. The humor is insightful and intelligent and NOT mean-spirited. Some sexual innuendo/references make it more appropriate for teens than younger children. Note this "book" is a series of radio broadcasts which run about half an hour each. Therefore, it doesn't lend itself well to listening all at once, but rather in increments of 30-60 minutes. Making the world substantially funnier If you're a fan of hilarious random ramblings, and crazy little songs, then this is the audiobook for you. Mark Watson is funny, sweet, and the stories from his life ('Exemplum, exemplum!') are brilliantly entertaining. For similar daft thoughts, check out Dave Gorman's Genius. A chuckle a minute, enough to put a smile on anyone's face. Amusingly whimsical I listen to this over and over again because it is amusing, harmless, and has enough variety to keep me entertained (even if I do listen as I am falling asleep in bed.) The biggest criticism I could have is that it does waste a lot of time repeating things, and half the show seems to be taken up with explaining what the show is. But once you accept that, it doesn't really matter! It's worth it to hear Mark's hilarious and almost exclusively train-related anecdotes, interspersed with witty comments by Tim Key and musical offerings by Tim Minchin. A favourite is Minchin's "Sloth" song. Wonderful! This is a very enjoyable recording of the Radio series, don't listen on public transport as you will laugh out loud! The disagreements between the two Tim's in particular are comedy gold! Mark Watson is a highly under rated comic who writes great books too.

Members Reviews: If Only There Were More Of These! I didn't really know much about Tom Corbett before listening to this, but I'm a fan now! It's a real throw back to the Golden Age of Science Fiction complete with roaring rocketships, laser pistols, colonies throughout the solar system, and square-jawed heroes defending the Solar System from threats in outer space. However, like all good adaptations, these tropes are given a 21st century makeover while still retaining the fun of times on by. All of the voice actors did an excellent jobs performing the story, and a round of applause for the sound engineers and their work on the special effect sounds. This was actually adapted from a series of comics by Bluewater, which is good not only because it lead me to this but...well, let's face it, what where the artist thinking on those comics?! Maybe it could have been longer, I would have liked that, but it was adapting only about three or so issues. At least a sequel, an original Colonial Radio Theater production I might add, has since been released, with hopefully more to come. All in all a great escape that feels like listening to a Silver Age comic come to life (in a good way). If you're into science fiction or comics, or looking to be introduce to the Colonial Radio Theater, start with this. You'll be glad you did. Rollicking Pulp Space Adventure Would you listen to Tom Corbett Space Cadet again? Why? I would listen to it again - the soundscape and detail were very good. Any additional comments? This is a pulp adventure in the best styling of the golden age of Science Fiction. Nice Job Any additional comments? Very nicely done! Still retained a little of the flavor of the old Tom Corbet radio show but it has been up dated with modern vocabulary and sound effects. IMHO the plot and characters were as complex and well done as most of the original Star Trek episodes. I hope the Colonial Radio Players will make more of these. If you are a sci fi fan give it a try, you'll probably be as pleasantly surprised as I was. Colonial Radio did it again!! Bought this for a trip. The entire family loved it. The voices became our friends. Well written and exciting. An hour of joy This is exactly what I hoped for! Just some good space fun. Not expensive so download and enjoy.

Members Reviews: Don't start with this ZBS adventure, but definitely listen to it, if you've followed the series My short, trenchant, concise and succinct review: if this is the first audio radio play produced by ZBS Media to which you've listened....you won't like it. You haven't listened to the preceding adventures, which is kind of like reading the last chapter in a particularly outre science fiction philosophical novel. Do yourself, us, and ZBS a favor and at least start with the first in this quartet. Better yet, start a few years and decades back with the previous Jack Flanders adventures--they build on each other--and see if you like the first ones before coming to this one. My review for those who have listened to a representative sample of Jack's previous adventures: This wasn't my favorite of the "Fantastic Voyages of Captain Jack"--that would be the previous adventure "Tropical Hot Dog Night"--but this one's interesting for those of us who've become familiar with the characters here, Jack, Mojo, Claudine, and their friends, over the years. Here, the characters are forced to face their psychological hangups. Magical Tales The previous reviewer is clearly very confused. The Black Mona Lisa (not Madonna) is a minor character in "The Incredible Adventures" she comes and she goes. That story is the 4th Jack Flanders adventure and brings to an end the first cycle. This adventure, "The White Castle", is the 20th adventure and the 4th of the "Fantastic Voyages of Captain Jack Flanders" sub-series. Much has happened in between and the tone and style of the adventures has changed much in the intervening 30 years. These magical and wonderful tales reward frequent listening and while it's not essential to listen to them all in order the listener will appreciate them all more if they do. It's been nearly 40 years since the first story but there is a timeless quality to them that will endure for many more years to come and continue to delight future audiences. Help keep the magic alive. disappointing I received and loved "The Incredible Adventures of Jack Flanders." I was prepared for quirky. After all the Black Madonna disappears toward the end of "Incredible Adventures" and no one seems to notice. The first half of the story is all about looking for her. "White Castle" consisted mostly of Jack and his friends talking about trivia. Very little adventuring at all.

They both have the ability to give a performance that is as equally as good as anything they do on screen. Any additional comments? I love the entire series of Ladies of Letters. At times the humour is subtle and 100% British and other times its laugh out loud. I am sad the series has concluded but forever grateful I have the series for my collection. Really enjoyed listening to this audiobook. Love the series on Radio 4, hadn't heard this one - it didn't disappoint. A perfect two hours of genteel (and sometimes not so genteel) verbal fencing. Who was your favorite character and why? How can one choose between either character, they are both slightly mad! What about Prunella Scales and Patricia Routledge s performance did you like? You can hear all of the subtle barbs and passive aggressive undercurrent in their voices. Well (voice) acted. Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting? No, as I was unable, but I listened to it throughout my walk to work. Enjoyable Very enjoyable. The narration of Prunella Scales and Patricia Rutledge is a joy to listen to.

Members Reviews: What the word 'Awesome' was invented for. Never a dull moment with Prof Dunning (dun dun dun dun ) and Harry Crow. Such a shame Lionheart (The much loved and missed Nicholas Courtney) died but Crow fills the role nicely. Oh no.... not Wales...... saved again loved every minute. Now onto the next one. harry and dunning to the rescue of this great island Laughs galore As usual with this series the laughs come thick and fast. Perhaps not the strongest story but the presentation and acting cannot be faulted. If you are new to the Scary first then Denge Marsh is a great place to start. That said this is highly recommended.

It never gets old. I simply MUST try that trifle recipe Oh, how I love these women! In all their catty sniping and mangled language, they always manage to make me laugh. Vera and her bizarre recipes, Irene and her excessive drinking, and the ongoing drama of their impossible children... so glad I can enjoy the shenanigans without actually having to deal with these crazy people. I simply must try the Cod with Dildo and Vera's trifle, where every ingredient is mixed with brandy.
